Jo Homewood

Head of School - Oakfield Academy

Jo became Head of School at Oakfield Academy in September 2026, having previously held the role of Assistant Headteacher. She is a passionate and dedicated educational leader with extensive experience in English leadership, championing early reading, enjoyment and purpose in writing, and securing strong foundational skills for all pupils.

Jo holds the National Professional Qualification for Leading Teaching (NPQLT) and uses this expertise to support high-quality teaching, curriculum development, and professional growth across the school. Through her leadership, she seeks to foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, aspiration, and excellence for every member of the school community.

Her work is underpinned by evidence-informed practice, drawing on educational research and approaches such as Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction and guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). Jo is committed to continuous improvement and ensuring that teaching and learning are grounded in strategies proven to have the greatest impact on pupil outcomes.

At the heart of Jo's leadership is a strong commitment to relational practice. She places great importance on building positive, trusting relationships with pupils, families, and staff, creating an environment where children feel safe, heard, valued, and ready to learn.

More recently, Jo has developed a particular interest in Early Years education and provision. She actively researches best practice in this area and is passionate about the significant role high-quality early education plays in shaping children's future success.
